Is OM just for the males of this world?

Two Girls (14-16) Lying on a Bed Next To Each OtherA well-intentioned friend recently told me she discovered that chanting OM (mantra and mystical Sanskrit sound of Hindu origin) was reserved for males only, and would have a negative impact on the female’s reproductive system if chanted by women.

I am really grateful for my friend’s having shared this point of view with me, as it gave me the opportunity to check within myself if that was my truth also.

After a few days of pondering, researching online and journeying on the matter, I have come to the conclusion that it is safe for women and men alike to chant OM. My reasoning is as follows:

If we are all one in spirit, then surely the most sacred and important mantra cannot be designed to rule out 50% of human consciousness, that of women.

In addition, ever since the end of the Mayan calendar in December 2012, there is no need to abide by the old rules anymore, specifically if they don’t resonate with you.

Just like some Aboriginal female elders who of late have started playing the didgeridoo themselves (previously only males were allowed to play it), we are now more than ever all free to make our own choices as to which tools we use to bring more light onto ourselves and onto this planet.

And if chanting OM is your way, then so be it!
